RUMINATING ON ENORMITY AND COSMOLOGY

“IT IS NOW KNOWN THAT THE MILKY WAY IS ONLY ONE OF AS MANY AS AN ESTIMATED 200 BILLION (2×1011) TO 2 TRILLION (2×1012) OR MORE GALAXIES”

HIGH PRIEST COMMENTARY: Can humans even understand how big that makes the universe? Numbers like billions and trillions are tossed around all the time in our world; I can understand $1 billion dollars at the movie theater box office for an Avengers movie and I can even conceptualize the size of the United States budget which is teetering on trillions as well.

But can we really understand those numbers? Not just the words but the actual physical representation of the number?

2 trillion galaxies? The enormity of something like that is inconceivable. No one on Earth can conceptualize or understand just how big that really is.

Even just understanding the size of the Milky Way is impossible to me, and probably unimaginable to most people if they sat down and thought about it. Only people like astronomers or cosmologists can understand it, and even they don’t see it in the real physical way, they just see the math; I’m talking about the understanding of the PHYSICAL space.

If you can’t picture the size of one galaxy, like our own Milky Way, how does one even begin to understand the immensity something 2 Trillion times (or more) bigger that is still expanding.

But that’s only what we can see; there is a point where light breaks down and that’s it for us. Our most sensitive equipment can’t see anything further than that point. We need light to see the Observable Universe.

And that isn’t the end of the universe. That’s just how far we can see with telescopes and with eyes that are not meant to be used on land; they are particularly evolved for an amphibious creature rather than one gazing into the depths of space.

Earth doesn’t end at the horizon. That’s only as far as I can see with my own eyes. But I know there is more out there…cities, mountains, lakes and oceans, people of all colors and creeds doing things that make the world work.

There is so much more out there that is beyond our comprehension. It forces one to ask: is this universe infinite? Does that mean that there is some physical representation of every possible choice and thought I’ve ever had living out their life like they are the Alpha and not just some dupe.

You really have to consider your beliefs when you think about this. Do you believe there is more out there past the limits of human observation? Do you believe in a multiverse? Since the universe is still expanding past human observation, what is it expanding into? Is our universe one of countless universes that ebb and flown into each other using physics we couldn’t possibly understand with our little monkey brains…?

Am I the dupe in this seemingly infinite universe? Is that even how a multiverse works? Physics is lost on me when it turns into math and my only real exposure to the multiverse theory comes from comic book legend Grant Morrison; and even he can’t imagine the infinite nature of reality and space. There is always an all encompassing border at some point in his work, like the Source Wall that holds the corpses of all the old Gods.

But infinity doesn’t work that way, so what’s on the other side of the barrier? Another multiverse, and another and another. Infinite multiverses, honeycombed together, ebbing and flowing like water. That structure is part of something larger that we don’t understand. It just goes on and on.

Humans will never be able to explore the stars like they do in our favorite sci-fi movies and books. Pursuing space travel is pointless. It’s just a relic from the Cold War. Humans are far too fragile for space travel and our lives are far too short to set foot on anything further than our Moon and maybe Mars. We will never see anything beyond that.

Our future lies in the multiverse, not in space travel.

You seriously have to take drugs to think about this with the right kind of mindset needed to have a brain that can even begin to tackle this type of enormity and scale.

[sigh] We are all just part of some larger organism, existing in infinite-infinite multiverses. I just don’t see how there is an end…

Everything is cellular, and there can’t be nothing, void, vacuum. It just doesn’t work that way, something has to be there. We are submerged like fish in water in our own atmosphere here on Earth. The atmosphere eventually tapers off into space, which is filled with everything you can think of; cosmic dust, light and radiation, dark matter.

It’s just another kind of submergence; another kind of fish and another kind of water…

The universe, the multiverse, it all has to be physical. Thats it. There can’t be nothing. As we hyper zoom out of our galaxy, to the eventual end of our universe and the start of the multiverse, all honeycombed together like human cells, like the smallest multi-cellular organism we can see here on Earth using quantum physics, so it goes in the infinite macrocosm of cosmology.

If the largest things in the structure of the universe and the smallest things in quantum physics look like the same thing and act the same way, you can’t help but ask yourself if our universe is just a cell in a larger organism and we are just living out our lives creating things that other cells need for the benefit of the larger organism.

We are microscopic specks in some other larger thing we can’t possibly understand, doing the same things cells and atoms do in the human body.

I can’t prove this with math or physics, but I just think, rationally, that’s how it has to be. How can it possibly be anything else?
